Style Inspiration: Children's Books

I have always been a fan of British literature, such as Peter Pan and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. These were my favorite books to read growing up, and probably have influenced many of my decisions to this day. I am happy to see that in the Spring Peter Pan styled collars have made a comeback, but there is so much more than collars. Typically, I like play with jewelry and color when it comes to my personal styling choices, so why not use my favorite childhood memories as inspiration?

J.M. Barrie's story, Peter Pan, is a wonderful story about having to realize that you are growing up. In the original story, Mrs. Darling has a secret kiss on the side of her cheek that nobody can ever get. At the end of the story, we learn that Wendy was that secret kiss. This necklace from LoveNailTree reminds me of a mother's love for her child, the wonderful memories of learning about boys, and  the meaning of kisses.

The Little Mermaid may have been first written by a Danish writer, but it's still one of my favorites. I recently purchased this bracelet and have been using it almost everyday. I love that it reminds me of one of my favorite movies/stories as a child, without being too childish.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a wonderful story about a child who dreams of a magical land because she is bored. Alice reminds me of rainy days at home, playing croquet, or coming up with a new game to play with my siblings, but most importantly the importance of tea. Tea is the most important tradition in my house because it's the way women in my family bond. My mother and I still have afternoon tea whenever I'm home, and it's a tradition I miss. This necklace reminds me the simplicity of our tradition, but how meaningful it is to us and the history behind it.

I Love Texas!

If you're reading this blog that probably means you know me pretty well. And if you know me pretty well, you know that I love TEXAS! I am a Texan through and through. I love my cowboy boots, buckles, sweet tea, and the occasional BBQ. I love my state, and it's a part of a part of who I am. Anyway, I was reading goop and I discovered Maya Brenner . Her designs are pretty simple, but enough to make a statement. Some of her most popular necklace are her state necklaces. You can find your state, and buy it in gold or silver. If you add a diamond, they will place it in the geographic location of your city!  So demonstrate your love for your state/city with one of these necklaces!

p.s. Maya Brenner also sells really cute charm necklaces. My personal favorite is the "straight as an arrow" necklace.

The Denim Vest

Reader, I am sorry I haven't updated in such a long time... It wasn't until my good friend, Larry, complained that I got my lazy ass to write. Thanks Larry!

I have searched high and low for the perfect denim vest. This spring/summer brace yourself for the return of the denim vest. This particular article of clothing, which we all thought died after the 90's, is coming back! Personally, I like to pair this vest with a bright colored dress or some shorts. Do me a favor and don't pair it with denim shorts. Denim on denim was never a good look and it never will be. Anyway, back to the main reason as to why I love denim vests. Sometimes an outfit can look a little naked, and it doesn't always mean that you're missing the perfect necklace or that amazing clutch. I usually like to wear scarves or blazers to resolve this problem, but in the summer/spring what can you do?!? You can't wear a scarf or a blazer when it's 100 degrees and the humidity is sucking the life out of you. The solution to this problem is a denim vest. The denim vest is a great option because it lets you breathe a bit and it can be the finishing touch. So ladies, go buy a denim vest! It's the best thing you can buy for the summer/spring.

Loafers! They aren't just your grandma's shoes.

I was in London for Spring Break. I always dreamed of going to London as a kid, so it was great when I finally got to visit it. London fashion is unique; it is an eclectic mix of sophistication with a bit of grunge. And just in case you're wondering, the answer is no, it's not hipster. I noticed that the girls were pairing loafers with everything and they made it work! I was very impressed with their ability to make my grandmother's favorite pair of shoes look fashionable.

I solemnly swear to be BOLD!

I was planning on going to fashion week in Milan, but due to the bad weather in Europe I was unable to go. Well, that only means that I will be watching it online. Thank you, Internet! I was hoping to become inspired by up and coming designers and my fellow fashionistas. Well, I have been inspired, but by the beauty of Italy. I have been studying in Italy, and every corner has a historical treasure. The colorful buildings, antiquity and history of the city have made me admire the avant-garde.  I have always loved avant-garde collections, but for the past two years, I haven’t had the courage to be bolder with my personal fashion choices. My wardrobe has become somewhat safe. So, what else can I do but add some color and fun! I have gone to several stores, and I noticed that many have opted to use pale shades of green, everything pink and bright oranges for the spring. This spring, I vow to have fun with my wardrobe. As should you!

Let's keep it classic with...

Pillowbox hats! I have always loved these old fashion hats. Sadly, it's pretty difficult to find these hats in stores. So I did the next best thing, I searched Etsy.  Etsy has so many pillowbox hats. I want to buy them all! The pillowbox hat has been worn for decades and never goes out of style. I have loved these hats and have admired the women that wore them. They are perfect for the fall and winter. They are simple, classic and sophisticated. So next time we have tea, bring your pillowbox hat!
